About Debra 2017 Edition

My name is Debra. I am a stay at home, homeschooling single Mom to 6 amazing children- 1 girl and 5 boys, 1 daughter in law and a grandson who brings me tons of joy!

I am a sci-fi geek- I love Doctor Who, Star Trek, The X Files, Battlestar Galactica etc. I love binge watching Gilmore Girls- at least once a year. I also love Jane Austen, the opera, Broadway musicals, and knitting! I collect teacups and teapots, and just about anything vintage- especially if it is handmade.  I love to cook and to garden.  Oh and I love Hello Kitty!!!

I am a certified raw food chef. After losing 120 lbs in the last year and a half I am now coaching others on how to add more plant based meals to their diets, how to lose weight. I am also preparing raw foods for purchase locally and I can ship some items too. I started working out this year- at Kaia Fit- and running. I love trail running. When I am on a trail- in nature- to me that is the best church service ever! This year I have run 2 half marathons, the Ragnar Trail, two 7 mile trail runs, several 5k’s and 10k’s. I love it.

I taught myself to knit 15 years ago and not much after I mastered the knit stitch, I taught myself to knit socks. During the last 15 years I have owned a couple of different fiber related businesses.. Woolie Acres was the first. I dyed roving for spinners, created crazy batts (think Jazzturtle but I will admit her art batts are way better than mine were), I also sold undyed roving, patterns, and handspun yarn.  The next fiber related business I had was Debra G Designs. I wove shawls on a triangle loom out of handspun yarn. I just wove my last shawl. I am ready to move on.

I started designing sock patterns in March of 2014. I am grateful that my patterns have been well received. When I decided to start the website I knew I wanted to help other small businesses- especially ones owned by women like me. I decided to not sell commercially made yarn but to feature yarn created by indie dyers.  I use artisans and small business owners in other areas of the business as well- as much as I possibly can. I have been blessed to meet some amazing women in the process.
